THE PROGRAMME

Art At has a full programme of events that runs alongside the exhibitions of art and craft work. Throughout the weekend there will be musical performances in the grounds, weather permitting.

FRIDAY 2ND JULY

Art At Private View 7.30 p.m Piano played by Peter Edwards

SATURDAY 3RD JULY

Richard will be talking about the Hay on Wye Festival and his life with books. Richard will also be talking about the second-handbook towns springing up all over Europe.

The new book serves only the ego and the industry, the second-hand book provides an international currency and serves the intellect.

Richard will also be talking on the future controversial plans for the Hay Festival and will be signing copies of his autobiography, My Kingdom of Books.

FILM SHED

Running throughout Saturday, the FILM SHED will be showing the latest in international short film. See the Film Page for full details.

PERFORMANCE: VINTAGE PICNIC

Jake Whittaker invites you to join him at his Vintage Picnic. Listen to 78s and enjoy a nostalgia sandwich. Spot him in the grounds.

POETRY

Charlie Sharp and Paul Stefan Jones will be reading throughout the day in the WORD TENT. They will be encouraging the creation of impromptu poetry.

MUSIC

There will be performances by a variety of musicians throughout the day, both in the Oak Hall and in the grounds, weather permitting.

Eleanor Fountain will be singing her own songs

Dave Brutnell will be playing acoustic guitar in the grounds

The Recorder Group will be playing in the grounds from 2.00 p.m.

BLACKSMITHING WORKSHOP

Run by Spike Blackhurst, this workshop welcomes beginners and those who are more experienced. Running throughout Saturday. See Workshops page to book.

STONE CARVING WORKSHOP

Jez Waller demonstrates stone carving techniques showing the basics of how to carve letters into slate, one of Wales's traditional crafts. Running throughout Saturday. See Workshops page to book.

FELT MAKING WORKSHOP

Eve O'Neill shows how to make fine detail and 3D felt work using a barbed needle. Beautiful images and articles can be made in this traditional old craft. Starts at 10.30 a.m. See Workshops page to book.

CREATING STORIES

Deirdre Edwards leads this workshop, encouraging the use of pictures, mime, the spoken word or song. Classes run from 11.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. See Workshops page to book.

MINGING TO BLINGING

Lydia Salmon leads this children's workshop making jewellery from scrap materials, ugly dolls from shrunken jumpers and string characters from old wool. Under 6's must be accompanied. Classes start at 10.30 a.m. See Workshops page to book.

ART OLYMPICS

This competition is open to all amateur and semi professional painters to create an original work of 2D art over the two days of the festival in the environs of Rhosygilwen. Prizes of £100 and £50 will be awarded.

SATURDAY EVENING

Join us for a full programme of film events.

NIGEL WALTERS 6.30 p.m.

Nigel will be showing a short film on cinematographers and talking about his role as the president of Imago, the European Federation of Cinematographers.

JOHN RUSSELL TAYLOR 7.00 p.m.

John will be talking about his life as a film critic and biographer of numerous film greats including Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Welles and Vivien Leigh.

TOM GEENS 7.30 p.m.

Tom will be introducing his new film, Menteur, and will be talking about his evolution as an artist through short film to first feature film and the importance of finding your voice through fearless experimentation.

JOHN WOJOWSKI 7.50 P.M.

The Kino International Short Film Festival director will be talking on the importance of the festival and its role in providing a facility for artists. He will also be discussing the power of short film to both communicate and to provide a starting point for potential expansion into feature film.

MENTEUR 8.00 p.m.

Screening of Menteur (Liar), Tom Geens new feature film. Tom will be answering questions following the screening. 'Antoine speaks to mirrors. He would really like to please his parents. Especially his father, who is so proud of his own beautifully framed university degree. Antoine wants to succeed. So does his younger brother Daniel. He has just received a luxury limousine, that's how much his employers like him. Antoine can't find a job. He tries though. So he starts telling lies. Small lies. Big lies. Mad lies.'

LINO CUT PRINTING WORKSHOP

Susan Sands shows you how to make a print by the reduction method. Find out what colours do to each other when overprinted. Lino and card are available to buy, rollers and ink are supplied. Class runs from 10.30 a.m.
